Jesse Tree: Joseph's Coat
I made Joseph's coat out of felt. It turned out alright, though I'd like to remake it with a finer fabric. It will do for this year. Felt is so easy to work with and I had all of these scraps on hand so it was a quick one to make.
Out of curiousity, I'd love to know if anyone else is planning on doing a Jesse Tree this year. Is this your first year doing it? Are you using a book or writing your own devotionals? Are you making your ornaments or collecting/buying them? I'd love to hear!

I am planning on doing a jesse tree with my family this year ... I have been quite hectic with other things so this first year I am not having flashy ornaments as I haven't had time - I will probably just end up printing out some photos/pictures and using those ... but I am storing away ideas so that through the next year I can start properly ... I have focussed on getting together the devotionals which I have gathered from here and there on line ... Is there a book you recommend? I would love to have a book to go with it ... I love the ornaments you have made and print them out to store in my jesse tree file so when I get a chance over the next twelve months I have some ideas sitting there ...
thanks a bunch for posting about all your hard work

I am going to try! I have a little tree, and several books. I am going to pull together devitions, as I haven't found one that is just right for us. Do you recommend a book? I am collecting ornaments, and planning to make a few starting Friday! Mine will not be anywhere near as cute as yours! Yours are an inspiration.
That's great that y'all are going to do it this year! Last year was our first year and we just used folded notecards as our ornaments. Our toddler loved it nonetheless and it was still a special time as a family. So I highly recommend just jumping in regardless of whether you've gotten your ornaments organized. As for devotional books, the first year we just used one online. This year we plan to use several from the book I mentioned in this post: http://thedomesticnotebook.blogspot.com/2009/05/christmas-in-may.html. That post also has a link to two websites that have free online devotionals for the Jesse Tree. We customized our stories/ornaments to be geared towards children so the book only covers half of the ones we'll be doing. We're writing the rest, using some children's bibles we have on hand as jumping-off points.
I love this Jesse tree idea. Can't wait to see it all set up. We'll do it this year but just with cards, like you mentioned.
Also... do you have an updated list of your topics/verses by day? I notice your first post says it's a rough draft.
that is really cool!
I heard about Jesse Trees for the first time about 2 years ago and loved the idea! My oldest was still little then, so I figured we'd wait until he could "get it." I read one of your earlier posts about the little green Jesse Tree book and ordered a copy! I wasn't even sure where to begin, and that little book is perfect. I've been purchasing some ornaments and making some. You're an inspiration! We do family devotions every night, so during December we will be using this. I can't wait! Thanks so much for the great ornament ideas!
Laura - We've ended up sticking with the original list in that first post. If I have time, I may post that list again, with a little more detail as to where we're getting the devotions for each day.
Jenna - I'm so glad you're doing a Jesse Tree this year. I'd love to see how it turns out. If you have a chance, you can upload pictures of your ornaments and tree to the Flickr group {see link in the post}. Thanks for stopping by!
