Handmade Gifts: No-Sew Fleece Blanket
Tied fleece blankets have been a craft trend for the last couple of years, but I thought it'd be worth posting about anyways. My boys LOVE these "snuggle blankets", as we call them. They're so easy - anyone can make them.
All you need is two coordinating fleece fabrics in the same length and a pair of sharp scissors.
Decide what size you want the blanket to be and make sure the two fleece fabrics are squared off with straight edges.
Begin by cutting fringe 3-4" long and about 1" wide around the perimeter of the fabrics.
I find it's easier to line the fabrics up on top of each other and cut them both at the same time.

Your corners will be cut out like this.
Once you finish cutting the fringe, you're ready to tie. Tie the top and bottom fringe strips together, working along the edge of the blanket. I recruited my mother-in-law to start at the opposite side and help me tie. We finished it really quickly. The whole project was less than hour's worth of time.
My son loves this thing and they're really warm. They're great as outdoor blankets, lap blankets, or small baby blankets.

My mom made some blankets like this for my kids when they were even littler. They are so cozy.

I love fleece blankets and these look so simple to make. Makes me want to run buy some fleece.
We just made those yesterday in our MOPS meeting! How funny!
Another great gift idea! What is your favorite way of making sure your blanket is square and the sides are straight? It is my one biggest issue in sewing!
Rose - if you have time on Black Friday, run out and buy your fleece then. No doubt you'll be able to buy a bundle at a great discount!
Merry - I'm with you...straight edges plague my sewing projects. you may notice in the pictures that I laid it out on my rug. I used the edge as a straight corner to start with and folded it over to see how it lined up with the straight rug edges. But the beauty of this blanket - it doesn't have to be perfect. Just eyeball it as best you can

I truly love the idea...unbelievable...so simple yet nice.
