Construction Themed Birthday Party

Boo had a builder/construction theme birthday party last weekend and it was a hit! This is the first of several posts on the party. I'll follow this up with how-to's and a budget breakdown. If you're looking for a boy's party theme and don't want to spend a fortune, check back for my budget details! We had a party for 30+ including adults and kiddos for under $100!

For eats...
For the buffet table, we made our own table using a spare sheet of plywood and two sawhorses we had in the garage. My dad gave me some old blueprints {both of our dads are builders} that we stapled to the tabletop as a sort of tablecloth.
For lunch, we had mini hoagies, corn salad, fruit skewers, chips, and a cheese ball with crackers.

The desserts were a hit. I made a bulldozer cake, dump cake, and Boo's request: chocolate cupcakes. The dump cake was the most popular. I should have made a bigger "dumpster" full - it disappeared quickly.
I hot glued fringe around my glass cake pedestals to dress them up a bit for our cupcakes.
For fun...
I found inspiration and a couple cute ideas for activities here. When the kids arrived, they picked out their builder aprons {which I got free from Home Depot}.

After putting on their aprons, the kids picked out their hardhats and decorated them with construction themed stickers. {No before picture of the setup...grrr}

The Noodle even sported one for a while.
And the main attraction of the party for sure, painting the cardboard house!! The Good Doctor and I got a refrigerator box and turned it into a house for the kids to paint. They used washable paint, rollers, and brushes and had the best time painting.
Here's the house before.

And after with all of the happy little builders.

After cake, we let the kids try their hand at busting open the construction cone pinata. I must have made it a little too sturdy because after 13 kids took a whack, the thing was still sealed up tight. We gave it a little rip and then the birthday boy got the honors of cracking it open.
For favors...
On the favor table, we had a toolbox full of tool cookies.
Each child got to take home a construction truck matchbox car.
It was a great day and Boo is still talking about it.

For the budget breakdown of the party, see here and here.

And here's a tutorial for the construction cone pinata.

Such great details. Love the cardboard house activity especially. I have three boys so a construction party may be in our future--thanks for the ideas!
